Born and raised in South Louisiana, Jennifer Helms moved from Florida to Cullman five years ago. She graded from 2012 on the Dean’s list as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. Helping people has always been in her nature, so going into the medical field just felt right. The first seven years of her career were spent working in Pediatric care. While she loved her time there, she looked forward to expanding her knowledge and skills further. Upon moving to Cullman, she spent one year in Internal Medicine before finding where she belonged – Family Medicine, where she gets the chance to help and serve all ages.
Jennifer is especially interested in diabetic care, wound care, hospice, and mental health. She actively seeks to break the stigma that still surrounds mental health, providing support and comfort to her patients and helping them realize they are not alone. With the team at Rushforth Family Care, she works to provide a safe space and a listening ear in the office.
In August 2022, she began working with Dr. Rushforth and quickly decided he would be the doctor she wanted to work with for many years to come. She appreciates his openness to her feedback and insights into patient care. His respect for her skills, knowledge, and medical experience makes her feel like part of the team and an active participant in the health of patients.
“My goal when you come into our office is to be a breath of fresh air and a smile,” Jennifer says. “No one likes to go to the doctor, no matter how much they like the doctor. So, if I can make someone laugh and smile, I have done my job.”
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys her musical passions. She is very active in her church children and youth department, as well as the adult choir. She is also part of a local southern gospel group called “New Dawn.” They enjoy singing at local churches and events. During the spring and summer, you will find her in her greenhouse and garden growing lots of vegetables. Additionally, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She is excited to be part of the Cullman community and support patient care.
